Perhaps, Royce Reed owes a greater part of her fame to being the ex-lover and baby mama of the National Basketball Association superstar Dwight Howard. According to reports, their paths crossed in 2005 while Royce was working as a dancer for the Orlando Magic side which was Howard’s team at the time. The duo hit it off after they were introduced to each other and wasted no time in commencing a relationship.

Their relationship obviously lasted a few years as the couple was still an item when they welcomed a baby boy named Braylon Joshua Robert Howard on the 18th of November in 2007. The romance soon hit the rocks and they opted for a separation that was far from amicable. Since they went their separate ways, it has been one lawsuit after another from either Howard or Royce. It was also revealed that their time together was tumultuous as they found it difficult to get along since they couldn’t even stand each other.

Howard Sued Royce for public disparagement

Following the end of their affair, it was enmeshed in Howard’s paternity settlement that under no account should Royce make references to him in the media; an agreement that was promptly endorsed by Royce Reed. Howard deemed it necessary to make this deal as any unpalatable comment may have an adverse effect on his public image, especially with potential sponsors like Adidas and McDonald’s. However, the mother of one once violated the stated agreement in 2010 when she let her tongue loose on Twitter and on the set of the Basketball Wives reality show, making several derogatory statements about Howard.

The NBA superstar wasted no time in firing back at Royce but he took the legal way by filing a lawsuit against his baby mama. Considering the fact that it was viewed as a violation of a previous agreement, it comes as no surprise that the case was ruled in the basketball player’s favor. What’s more, the mother of one was mandated to pay the sum of $500 as a fine whenever she mentions her baby daddy’s name in the public arena.

They fought dirty in the lawsuit for custody

Following the end of their union in 2008, the two were engaged in a custody battle over the only child their relationship produced. Eventually, the reality television star emerged as the boy’s primary caretaker while Dwight was mandated to pay handsomely for child support to both mother and child.

Howard later filled for increased custody of their son but Royce Reed accused him of being raunchy, adding that the basketball star had no qualms about missing a lot of scheduled visits with Braylon. Another motion came from the mother of one in 2010, asking the Orange County, Florida court to assign a guardian who would ensure Dwight sticks to their scheduled child visits as stated in their custody arrangement. She also accused Howard of physically abusing Braylon in 2014. While Dwight acknowledged hitting the teenager with a belt; the case didn’t go far for want of hard evidence.

End of feud

Earlier in 2016, the couple came to an agreement to maintain a friendly relationship for their son’s sake. The fights all came to an end and they opened up communication lines to better co-parent their child. According to the two, their sole interest is for Braylon to have a proper upbringing without having to contend with the problems of his parents. Since then, the three of them have been spotted together severally; once at one of Howard’s matches and at the teenager’s graduation on the 23rd of May in 2019, and they even posed for a snapshot.

TMZ later revealed that their amicable agreement was made possible by family members on both Royce and Howard’s side who teamed up to convince them of the need to give their son a better upbringing.
