Emily is a multi-talented lady but has not appeared in lots of movies as she has another passion besides acting which is martial arts. The actress is a very good martial artist and a former kickboxer. She and her brother have studied martial arts since they were still very young and she is a third-degree black belter. She is not only good in martial arts but has also won a national championship in 1998 where she was ranked No 1 for her age range in the country, courtesy of her martial arts prowess. In 2013, she earned a fifth-degree black belt.

Emily and her brother James due to their passion for martial arts jointly run a martial arts school named Surprise Family Karate which is located in Surprize, Arizona.
