The sitcom centered on the lives of residents of a middle-class apartment building named 227 Lexington Place located in Northeast, Washington, D.C. The lead character was played by Marla Gibbs as Mary Jenkins – a loving but nosy tart-tongued housewife.

Mary’s husband was Lester, her daughter Brenda, and Alaina Reed Hall who played Rose Lee Holloway was her best friend. Rose was level-headed and served as the voice of reason among the residents of 227. Kia Goodwin came in as Rose’s daughter who was a close friend to Brenda. Kia Goodwin was nowhere to be seen on television after she left 227 until 1993 when she rekindled her acting career. She first came on another of “ABC Afterschool Special” and then she appeared in the film, Strapped the same year.

The youngster played a major role in 1998 on the set of The Object of My Affection as Juliet. The movie entitled, The Opportunists cast her as a young nurse, she was in Ordinary Sinner and in 2002, joined the cast of New World Order.

The advent of the 2000s marked a turning point in Kia Goodwin’s career. She hit the TV series with a bang by 2003, starting with Platinum where she played Lady Bryce. From 2005 to 2006, Goodwin was part of Barbershop. 2013 to 2015 was when she was featured in The Good Wife in a recurring role as Sondra. In 2015, she joined the mini TV series Show Me a Hero as Elaine Henderson and also appeared in several cameos.
