Paula Burrows (born November 11, 1987) is a 54-year-old Canadian-born voice actress, actress, screenwriter, and editor of Scottish descent. She blew up as an actress after voicing the character of Rayla in the Netflix animated series The Dragon Prince. Paula appeared in 27 of the show’s 28 episodes and was well-loved by viewers for her unfettered use of her Scottish accent in interpreting the character. Read on to find out more about Ms. Burrows including, her nationality and filmography.

Where is Paula Burrows from?

Paula Burrows originally hails from the mid-western European country of Scotland. She was, however, born in the Northern American country of Canada. The talented actress was born on November 11, 1987, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Her birth sign is Scorpio and she belongs to the Caucasian ethnic group. Paula enjoys dual citizenship status first as a Canadian citizen, due to her birth in the country, and also as a citizen of Scotland based on her parental heritage.

Speaking of parents, aside from the fact that her parents are both believed to be Scottish citizens who immigrated to Canada shortly before Paula was born, not much is known about them, including where they are at the moment and what they did for a living to provide sufficient care for a young Paula.

Paula Burrows did post a picture of her mother on Instagram once while paying tribute to her on the occasion of the May 15, 2017 Mothers’ Day celebrations. She, however, didn’t mention her name. Whether that was deliberately done to uphold the mystery of her identity is a question that would be best answered by Paula herself.

Paula, like many other actresses, prefers to shield members of her family from the highs and the lows of the celebrity spotlight. It is a feat she has achieved remarkably as we have no idea if she is the only child her parents gave birth to. Paula spent her formative years in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

She is said to have attended an unnamed, local high school before going on to acquire a Film Arts certificate from the prestigious Langara College. The school is famous for its Studio 58, notable for its impressive Theater Arts Programme, and is said to host over 700 auditions annually but ends up accepting only 16 candidates.

It is a testament to Paula’s exceptional acting abilities that she was one of the 16 before she graduated in 2010 following in the footsteps of notable entertainment figures like actors Bob Frazer, Scott McNeil, David Richmond-Peck, and Jonathon Young, actresses Lara Gilchrist and Kathryn Shaw, and directors Scott Bellis, Kim Collier, Dean Paul Gibson, and Robert McQueen.

Paula Burrows has over a dozen acting credits

Shortly after leaving Langara College in 2010, Paula landed her first acting role that same year when she was cast in the movie Waiting. Paula, who is best known for her work as a voice actress, got her first voice-over role in the short movie Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Say Goodnight. Her steady and impressive performances put her on the radar of several movie makers and the roles came thick and fast.

She starred in Bangin’ Vengeance! (2011) and was only 20 years old when she played the role of June in the 2013 movie Backward Fall. She also played the role of Molly’s girlfriend in Beat Around the Bush (2016). Paula’s acting star shone even brighter when she started appearing in TV series such as Supernatural, The Killing, Mr. Young, and of course The Dragon Prince.

To a substantial extent, the Netflix series known as The Dragon Prince was a commercial success and Paula’s interpretation of the character Rayla, further endeared her to the hearts of animated movie/series lovers globally, primarily due to the unique and distinctive Scottish accent she introduced with the character. A move her mother approved by saying her daughter now speaks properly.

Paula Burrows is not married

Paula Burrows is yet to tie the proverbial knot with any man. It doesn’t mean, however, that the fiery red-haired actress has been celibate all her life. Her relationship history shows that she was once in a relationship with a man known as Antonín Jaros. How they met or where is overshadowed by the fact that their relationship lasted just 3 years from 2014 before ending in 2017.

While there is no doubt that Paula was very much in love with Antonin, the acrimonious end to their relationship stems from the fact that Antonin cheated on her with one of their mutual friends. The other woman in this scenario was the former couple’s mutual friend named Sarah. Several reports indicate that Paula even attended Sarah’s hen party just before she married her (Sarah’s) first husband and that Sarah eventually divorced her husband to be with Antonin, who by this time was Paula’s ex.

She has a YouTube project titled The Dangers of Online Dating which saw her win a Leo Award for the Best Performance by a Female in a Web Series.

In the web series, she plays the role of an online sexual health nurse who hands out sex advice, including How to put on a condom and several others.
