The TV series was the big break that Monique’s career needed and it essentially became her calling card for future movie and television roles. Though her time on the show ended rather abruptly when she departed in 1990, there was a two-year gap before her next movie role. The 2-year time-lapse is as yet unaccounted for but the actress landed her next movie role when she portrayed the character of Charlotte Swap in the 1992 action/drama feature-length titled In The Line of Duty: Siege At Marion. She followed that up by playing the role of Pia in The Goodbye Bird (1993). In 1994, Monique Lanier was cast as Countess Renier in the sci-fi/adventure titled Under A Killing Moon.

For all that Life Goes On was to the talented actress, Monique Lanier left the show after appearing in only 22 episodes from 1989 to 1990 and actress Tracey Needham took her place. The reason for her departure was revealed to be down to a variety of factors but primarily as a result of the premature birth of her daughter, Julian Moon.

Notwithstanding the circumstances surrounding the birth of her child, the actress revealed that she went back to her native location more for the peace of mind it afforded her away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, a place she claimed to actively dislike because of its cut-throat nature and where it seemed people had their priorities in the wrong order.
