The stage and television actress was born in Hertfordshire, England, the United Kingdom, where she spent a better part of her early years. To date, her family still resides in Hertfordshire, where both her mom and dad are employed as professional teachers. However, details about their names are not known. It is common knowledge that Claire is not the only child of her parents, the My Mad Fat Diary alum grew up alongside an older brother whose identity is also not known.

She started with a BBC Radio 4 afternoon play titled The Sound of Solitary where she played the role of Libby on the 4th of September 2003.
