Caroline Ducey (full name: Caroline Trousselard, born December 12, 1976) is a 47-year-old French actress who began her acting career in 1994 and has been in over 30 movies to date, including her most controversial role in the 1999 movie Romance.
The French actress is a veteran by all standards even though she is not as old as most veterans. Here, we will explore 5 facts to know about the talented actress.
Caroline Ducey biography – she was born in the south of France
Caroline Ducey was born on December 12, 1976, under the birth sign of Sagittarius, in Sainte-Adresse, Seine-Maritime, France. The actress was born into a white European family and reportedly grew up in her hometown which is located in the south of France. Though not much is known about the beautiful French actress’s early life, one particular source claims that she is the daughter of Jacques Doillon (father), and Jane Birkin (mother).
The actress herself has not once denied nor supported these claims and as such, a lot of the public and most parts of the media are still quite hesitant to endorse those claims. The same source also claims that Caroline Ducey has a brother named Éric Deschodt. However, just like the assertions identifying her parents, there is no way to verify the truth of these statements.
Caroline Ducey received her basic formal education in her hometown before going on to acquire a college education from the University of Paris, popularly known as La Sorbonne where she got a degree in Literature.
Having gotten a brief overview of what Caroline Ducey’s early days were like, let’s take a look at 5 of the lesser-known facts about the French actress.
1. Caroline Ducey began acting from a very young age
Like most performers, actors included, Caroline became interested in the performing arts from a very young age. With a myriad of options that included music, Caroline chose the acting route and quickly began to pursue her interest in acting from the tender age of 11. Again, like most actresses of any age or generation, Caroline didn’t suddenly burst onto the silver screen; she had to find a sort of breeding ground for her considerable acting skills.
She found that breeding ground in theaters where she quickly established herself as a fan favorite. It should be well noted that Caroline was still a young elementary school student at the time and by the time high school rolled around, she was willing to take her career to the next level. To achieve that, Caroline enrolled in the Marseilles Conservatory where she studied drama.
2. She made her silver screen debut as a teenager
Having made her acting debut at the tender age of 11, Caroline spent the next seven years as a theater actress and was a regular feature in multiple plays despite her relatively young age. She even combined those years with the certain arduous requirements of the Marseilles Conservatory where she studied drama.
While being a theater actress would have been and was enough for some of her peers in the acting business, Caroline’s ambitions far exceeded the bounds imposed by the theater. She wanted more and she promptly moved to Paris to achieve those dreams.
Several auditions later, Caroline landed her first on-screen role in the movie Too Much Happiness. The film was released in 1994 and Caroline was just an 18-year-old teenager at the time and was handed the minor role of Mathilde. That role was the first of about 23 movies and TV series over the next 10 years. Caroline came into her own with stellar performances in movies and TV series such as Amateur (2004), Three Step Dance (2003), The Soul Keeper (2002), Entre Deux Rails (2001), The Dark Room (2000), and Romance (1999) amongst others.
3. Caroline Ducey’s breakout movie was critically panned
Before 1999, not many people knew who Caroline Ducey was as her career hadn’t taken off as she was still limited to bit-part roles that ensured she was on the periphery of her movies as a supporting cast. All of that changed when she was handed the lead role in the 1999 movie Romance.
Written and directed by Catherine Breillat, Romance focused on the character Marie (played by Caroline Ducey) who had a relatively good live-in relationship with her boyfriend but was forced to go outside the relationship to seek the physical intimacy she desperately desired but was missing from her relationship.
On the surface, the film sounds simple enough but when Caroline stepped on set, she found out the movie had all the makings of being labeled porn, even starring well-known Italian porn star Rocco Siffredi as the male lead, except for the fact that it wasn’t necessarily classified as such.
Breillat admitted to the fact that she had written the movie years before its eventual release but that she didn’t have the resources to push it through because of the explicitly graphic content. The film received wave after wave of negative reviews from critics calling for the censorship of the movie because of the graphic scenes,
In the end, though, the film was a huge commercial success and even opened in countries such as the United States and the UK, which initially cut some scenes but decided to add them back when the Blu-ray was released. Caroline Ducey talked about how difficult and challenging the movie was for her to make, even causing her to have a falling out with Catherine (they mended fences later) because she was required to actually perform the sexual acts instead of just acting them out.
Despite her challenges though, it turned out to be a case of All’s well that ends well because Romance put Caroline Ducey on the map and she has gone on to rack up more than 50 acting credits since the release of the movie in 1999. She is still very active as an actress.
4. Caroline Ducey is not married
The actress’ IMDb page claims she is married to a man named Trousellard. It also claims that she has an unnamed child with the man in question. A closer look at the actress’ life and personal dealings suggest otherwise though as she has neither made mention of any child and husband nor does she appear to be in a serious romantic relationship at the moment.
The only sniff of publicity that her romantic life has gotten remains when she was rumored to be in a relationship with her Romance co-star Rocco Siffredi. That rumor never saw the light of day. Caroline does not seem to be bothered about the present state of her relationship status and is instead choosing to focus on further progressing in her career as an actress.

5. The actress is active on social media
The myriad of social media platforms available in this day and age were not available during Caroline Ducey’s heyday. The advent of social media has made it possible for various celebrities to keep in touch with their fans and supporters and it is an opportunity that Caroline has not let slip by her.
The actress is quite active on Instagram under the handle @duceycaroline and she has more than 6.5k followers on the platform. Caroline joined Twitter in August 2009. Her Twitter handle is @DuceyCaroline and she has just over 100 followers, which shows that she is not as active on this platform as she is on Instagram, even though her most recent tweet was on June 3, 2022.
