This was as far back as the ’80s but the world has come a long way and with most people being proud of the sexuality despite subtle criticisms coming up from different quarters, Brad is proudly enjoying marital bliss with his partner who was initially closeted.
George and Brad have since gone past their days of hiding to embrace who they are. They are often seen at public events together.
All you need to know about Altman’s husband, George Takei
George Takei is an actor, writer, as well as a political activist who has been out there speaking against the current U.S administration’s policies on illegal immigrants. George who was born to a Japanese-American couple in 1937, in the U.S, is most popular for his role in Star Trek, he also featured in other works such as Mission: Impossible (1966), Which Way to the Front (1970), and many more.
In 1979, he co-wrote the book ‘Mirror friend, mirror foe’ with Robert Asprin. The fact that he gave up the years he had put into studying architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, to pursue his dreams in theatre and arts is noteworthy. To make his dreams a reality, he transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in theatre in 1960 and a Master of Arts in the same department in 1964.
Apart from being a political activist, George ran for a seat in the Los Angeles council in 1973, he came in as a close second though. Mayor Tom Bradley later appointed Takei to the board of directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District.
In 2017, Scott R. Brunton accused George of drugging him and trying to take advantage of him sexually back in 1981, after a lot of investigations, the allegation was found to be false. George, on the other hand, came out to publicly forgive him, stating that he holds no ill will towards him.
How did Brad and George Takei Meet?
They met at a gay club called Frontrunners, in a joint interview they had, they recalled how it all started and threw some light on the reason why the relationship had grown so much. According to them, George made the first move by asking Brad to train with him for marathons due to the fact that Brad was the fastest runner in the club at the time.
Unknown to Brad at the time, George was admiring his good looks and that regard soon turned into a full-blown relationship but there were obstacles in their way.
They had to hide their relationship at first to save George’s career
They started dating back in 1985 but due to the fact that George Takei was a closeted gay man, Brad was never publicly seen as his boyfriend. The actor was already popular for his role on Star Trek which made it hard for him to share his sexual orientation, considering the mixed reception such revelations always attract, especially back in the day.
Being on a hit TV series like Star Trek was a big deal for Takei and he wouldn’t trade it for anything, even his love for Brad. As a result, he kept silent about his sexuality, even though it was killing him inside. Ironically, Takei was someone who doesn’t hold back in airing his opinions about things but when it came to something that might affect his career negatively, he remained silent.
The wedding ceremony of Brad Altman and George Takei set the pace for others
After hiding their relationship for more than 20 years, George Takei finally opened up in 2005 and things really started heating up between the two. In 2008, when the ban against same-sex marriage was lifted in California, they finally got married. They got married at the Japanese-American National Museum in Los Angeles at the Democracy Forum venue and the diversity in their backgrounds added so much color to the occasion. They had a Buddhist priest, Native American wedding bands, a bagpipe procession, and the list goes on.
On the wedding guest list was Senator Daniel Inouye, the late Hawaii honorable member. Star Trek stars Walter Koenig (Chekov) and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) served as their best man and best woman respectively. George and Brad became the first same-sex couple to receive a marriage license in West Hollywood, thereby setting the pace for others to follow.

Do they have children?
For more than 35 years, Brad Altman and George Takei have enjoyed a union that has won the admiration of many. When asked about the secret of their longevity, they attributed it to the fact that they always work as a team, helping each other through anything.
At the moment, there has been no attempt to add little ones to their family, but it’s never too late for that. According to George, their relationship has thrived for so long because of their dedication to each other and to helping one another grow in their different careers. Apparently, they don’t want to bring variables into an equation that is already stable so babies might not be on the cards for now.
How Brad Altman started and grew his career
At this time, little is known about how Brad slipped into Hollywood. But, we know this much though, his earliest work happens to be Star Trek New Voyages: Phase 11 (2004).
Besides, ever since he married George there has been a big boost in his career. This is expected as he married someone who is well-grounded in the movie industry as an actor and writer. For the most part, Brad is in charge of his husband’s career, managing and helping him grow.

Brad’s major works as an actor and a producer
Amongst the works he has done, Star Trek New Voyages: Phase 11 (2004), Whatever, the Series (2011), and It takes Two (2015) stand out as his best works so far.
In Star Trek, he worked as the management representative but due to the hype and awards that came with the movie, the small role he took in the production still looks good on his portfolio.
In Whatever, the Series (2011) he played the role of Andy in the first few episodes of the show. The show was teen-based, it tries to discuss certain aspects of being young that have been neglected for so long.
It Takes Two (2015) was quite different from the other two productions that were earlier discussed. In addition to the fact that it was a reality TV show, his husband George featured in the series with him. The show is all about problem-solving skills and how to navigate through life.
Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, in addition to Takei’s Take, are two of Brad’s other productions at this point.
